Waiting For Things To Happen

Is there a story that I tell with my photography?

We live at the end of the road. Or so it seems. Climate crisis, ecosystems collapse, mass migrations, political polarization, violent protests, dysfunction of the economic system, Internet-based mass surveillance, development of artificial intelligence, genetic manipulation. From all over the place weíre bombarded with streams of information pointing to impeding danger of apocalypse and a need for a complete paradigm shift.

Yet, at the same time, it seems barely anything ever changes in how we live on this planet. Thereís no new narrative we can cling on even though nobody believes in the current story anymore. Instead, we are lost in the play pretend, dreaming of old good times, stuck in tense patterns of the everyday chaos.

Everything seems to be in its place after all. The balance is kept in check. Our lives are pretty ordinary as they always were.

Yet, something is off. Some pieces are already missing. The future is already here. We realize that and sometimes when we stop we are drowned with anxious hope for the tension to finally burst. For a moment we donít care if itís apocalypse or salvation.

There’s no story. There are slight shifts from that prettiest composition, patterns that frustrate, a visual balance that barely holds.
